Symbolism #2

This is the Mississippi river located in North America, or more specifically, the United States. We chose this picture to represent the symbol, America. America as a whole stood out to be a symbol in "The Kite Runner" because for Amir, America was a place to forget all the hardships and tragedy that he dealt with in the past. America to him is the perfect place to start a new family, new job,  new memories, and most importantly, to forget. Amir uses the river as a representation that, time will always go forward and never backwards and believes that he should be moving forward as well.

Quote:
" For me, America was a place to bury my memories" (Pg 136)
" The first time I saw the pacific, I almost cried" (Pg 143)

The author, Khaled Hosseini, wanted to portray America, as a beautiful place where everyone wants to go to but for Amir it was because of a different choice. Amir saw America as a new start and Khaled wanted to represent that with the river moving forward and never backwards.
